Meet John Bagnato
My Recent Music and Research Projects
I conducted a Fulbright Fellowship in 2022-23 in Bahia, Brazil that examined decolonial strategies within Afrodiasporic musical praxis through intercultural dialog. This project began through collaborations with musicians from the same community supported by a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship in 2014. I began a recording project of my music with these musicians through the support of a Faculty Research Grant from Pitt’s Center for Latin American Studies in 2023. I was honored to be selected to be a member of the University of Pittsburgh Ethnic Studies Research Incubator in the 2022-23 academic year. I participated in a trio project of Bryce Rabideau and Jason Rafalak that began during the pandemic . We recorded Bryce's music on an album released in 2023, Meanwhile.
